The Lord of the Rings

Lord of the Rings inspired me to write. This site is my homage to that inspiration.

frodo
"I will take the Ring to Mordor, though I do not know the way."

Farewell to Lorien

"for the time will soon come when hobbits will shape the fortunes of all"

"If you trust nothing else, trust this... trust us"

lotr
(this is the book I've had since I was 13.)

Peter Jackson

aragorn
"If by my life or death I can protect you, I will."

"I do not fear them."

pippin
"What about second breakfast..."

"I can fight!"

eomer
"Now is the hour... Riders of Rohan, oaths you have taken, now fulfill them all, to lord & land!"

edoras

"They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow;
The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow."

"But Pippin rose to his feet, as if a great weight had been lifted from him;
and he stood listening to the horns, and it seemed to him that they would break his heart with joy.
And never in after years could he hear a horn blown in the distance without tears starting in his eyes."

"It never lets go."

boromir
"It is a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear & doubt over so small a thing...
Such a little thing."

legolas
"For me, the grief is still too near."

Aragorn
"aragorn..."

theoden king
"Let this be the hour when we draw swords together."

Galadriel
"the world is changed..."

LINKS (UPDATED to remove dead links)

Here are some links I've found, where I discovered there are others who debate endlessly whether there were two Glorfindels, or just one who died & was reborn, who care deeply if Legolas was dark or blond. (Tolkien says most elves, especially Legolas's branch, were dark, & there weren't many blonds. However!!! In The Hobbit, Tolkien refers to  the Elven King's 'golden hair,' and that was Thranduil, Legolas's father. For some reason, I'd always pictured him as blond, anyway, & to my great happiness, I read in the LOTR fan magazine that Peter Jackson did, too.)

I've found a few LOTR personality tests:

LOTR Character Test (this one was pretty good, Frodo here, too)

World of  Warcraft   (if you like living in a medieval fantasy, this is the place to do it. So far, my highest is a L53 hunter - make that L69 hunter, as well as a 60 Paladin (male, very mighty) and a pretty human mage 60.  Only a WoW-fan would care about this, I know - but just try getting to 70!  And in fact, I have a Blood Elf paladin named Aren...  looks just like the Aren in my book, too.)

LOTR News & Quotes

On Elves & Men:

Viggo Mortensen: "Sean Bean and I made fun of the elves, and they made fun of us. They said we were dirty and smelly and less intelligent and graceful, all of which is probably true. We commented on their vanity: 'Well, when you are done with your nails, we are being attacked.' "

Karl Urban:  "There's only so much you can do until you get on set and see the aesthetics of what you're dealing with. Then you see what the other players are giving to you. It's all about the transfer of energy between different actors."

~Karl Urban~

Karl Urban stars with The Rock in another of my favorite things, video game - movies: Doom!
doom
I like The Rock fine, but I'm seeing it for Karl Urban! (Garrett is seeing it for the blasting...)
But even more wonderful, Karl Urban is going to be in a Viking/Indian movie, Pathfinder, a remake of a Norwegian film.

Elijah Wood has a really interesting new movie:

Orlando's Acceptance Speech for Best Debut, Empire:
This is surreal. Oh my word, thank you so much It's crazy because I got an opportunity out of drama school to go and work on The Lord of the Rings that doesn't come round very often and I've been forever grateful to the hundreds and thousands of people who felt that they wanted to make The Lord of the Rings - Peter Jackson, Frances Walsh his writing partner, for seeing some pointy-eared quality in me, my agent Fiona and my family and friends who I just love and the readers of Empire - because I think I love you too now.'

Billy Boyd & Orlando Bloom

On his 2002 Empire award: "I think my mum will have it in pride somewhere beside my grandmother on the mantelpiece."

Orlando Bloom: "If life isn't about humanity, then tell me what it's about, because I'd love to know.
Money and power aren't what life is about. It can't be."

Cate Blanchett:  Look, I'm a 35-year-old woman, and I saw a photograph of me the other day. I must have been happy at the Oscars, or something. And, you know, I've got little lines here, and I thought... that's a 35-year-old woman's face who's happy. I was really flattered when they approached me - someone who's not done anything to themselves. I mean, I look after myself - I have the odd facial, I like a little bit of massage.

pippin
"It comes in pints?"

Cate Blanchett: I've never looked upon myself as being a beauty, per se. I mean, I'm not someone who's a model, and I'm not someone who... When I work, I try and work from the inside out, and so I'm not thinking, "More lipstick, more lipstick. Vaseline lens, please, over here." I think it's all about revealing the internal life of a character. And I feel I'm always criticised for making characters unsympathetic and, you know, having bad hair days on screen. I'm always told that I'm "brave". So I sort of find that comment quite strange, 'cause I would tend to feel I'm in the other spectrum. And, sure, you know, when you're at the Oscars, it's like your wedding day. It's not as spiritual as your wedding day -hopefully... But if you're under that much scrutiny, why would you want to look terrible? Of course someone does your hair, of course someone does your makeup. They do when you're walking down the aisle, because you know you're going to see pictures of yourself, and you want to look great! And I think that's a natural human thing. But see me at six o'clock in the morning, and I think maybe those people wouldn't be asking that question.

Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn): "It's not just about protecting your home and your way of life against forces of evil. It also reminds us that there's potential in all of us for good and evil. Each member of the Fellowship has moments of self-doubt--the potential to do the wrong thing. The story also deals with prejudice and fear of the unknown--the things, nations and cultures we don't understand. If the world keeps spinning and doesn't come apart, we need to be patient with ourselves and with others. There isn't much future in keeping a wall between ourselves and the rest of the world."

"There is still hope."

Liv Tyler (Arwen): "I think it will seem very relevant. It will be wonderful for people to go and see a film about all these people coming together to destroy evil through friendship, love and companionship."

Ian McKellen (Gandalf): "As Gandalf, the Gray Wizard, I had this fight with Saruman, the White Wizard. Christopher Lee, who plays Saruman, points his staff at me, and I twist around on my shoulder with my legs in the air, on the ground. That was me. I achieved that with my legs in the air and a magnet keeping my shoulder on the ground. But just off the view of the camera was a chiropractor, an osteopath and a masseur."

Sean Bean (Boromir): "You get home, and you're overwhelmed by the reality of normal life. One day you're running around with swords and killing all the Orcs, the next you're loading a dishwasher."
