If you've already read Dane's book, you might like to meet him as a pleased-with-himself 17 year old in his sister's book, The Dawn Star. (If you hated The Midnight Moon, you wouldn't be here, so we won't consider that possibility.)
And here at last I have a cover model who looks like my hero.
Dane Calydon first appeared in The Dawn Star, the heroine's younger
brother, who left the story looking for adventure on a new world. He
didn't find it. When the Midnight Moon begins, Dane is bored stiff,
enjoying the barbed comments of his faithful lingbat, Carob, but
finding no adventure - or love - at all. He's grown strong, he's
learned every language in the system, and he's ready to prove
himself.
Rather than seizing a
chance to save lovely maidens, Dane finds himself drawn to a
sharp-tongued, robed warrior - known for their green, scaly flesh,
webbed feet, and bulgy left eye. So why does the sound of her voice
trigger distant longing in his heart?
The Midnight Moon is the most enjoyable story I've written to date.
Dane is tender & passionate, funny & wise. I love him! As
everyone in the galaxy is charmed by his agreeable nature, Aiyana is
more intent on destroying her enemies, & avenging a land of
paradise lost. Though Dane awakens ancient desires in her heart, she
can't allow herself to succumb, even when he fuels her heart &
imagination with wild & passionate dreams.
Reviews:
After reading this book, I went to directly to Amazon and ordered the first installment, Dawn Star, along with another of Piel's backtitles. I loved this heroine! Aiyana has depth, inner beauty as well as outer beauty, and a strength that carries her through the story. Dane is fabulous, and the numerous lovemaking scenes sizzle. Even Batty, the lingbat, is a fully realized character. It was a delight watching him come into his own. Piel's touches of humor and sparkling dialogue make this one a classic!
