Rebel Wind is getting REALLY hard to find now... I've gotten extra copies through Barnes & Noble & Amazon, with their 'other sellers' feature.
Sometimes, I go back & read this first story, & I find its various flaws. (I didn't know what Point of View was then, & sometimes, the voice just doesn't sound like my own.) But there's something about Jared that is very real to me, his moodiness, nobility, that slight weariness. Some parts of Pippa don't ring true to me, & I feel they should have been more restrained romantically - as it were. But I love the story. Well, I think I wrote as if everyone knew about the battle of Chancellorsville, & others, but I think I got a lot of that accurately. It's weird to go back & read one's first book (the first published - Brighter Dawn was the first story written, but I rewrote it, so my writing is better there.) I see what I was trying to do, what I did well, & where I still had much to learn. (and I assume we always have 'much to learn,' so in 10 years, I'll look back at those I write today & see how they could have been better.) But it's also satisfying to see the good in it, the reality of the emotion & of the characters. It's almost as if you could go back & revisit yourself at 16, & you'd wince in places, but also, you might be deeply & excruciatingly moved by what you saw in the mists of your own past.
Stobie Piel's first romance, available as backlist. A Confederate captain and a Yankee spy match wits in a story of divided loyalty and powerful love.
'Ms. Piel has written an outstanding book that kept me enthralled from beginning to end.' Rendezvous
'Amidst the backdrop of the horror of war, Ms. Piel has written a compelling, heartwarming story that will have you turning the pages as fast as you can. The subplots are skillfully woven into the main story, and I found myself caring for all of her beautifully sketched characters. Ms. Piel is about to make a name for herself in the historical romance genre. Don't miss this one.' Genie Romex Reviews
