A November 2005 Release from Leisure Heartspell Romance
From the lips, to the heart...
A DELICIOUS DRAUGHT… Eliana Daere was the greatest herbalist alive. Trained by the wizard Madawc, she could brew a potion to bring on a gentle slumber, or a philter to drop a foe dead in his tracks. Only one man existed whom she feared—one man who constantly thwarted her will, one detestably handsome, insolent and gifted sorcerer. It was his power that protected the land of Amrodel. But Damir would never turn down her offer of an alliance, and when he arrived at the Mage’s Glade and drank of the Wine of Truce, Eliana would spring her trap. CALLED LOVE He’d never trusted Eliana Daere. Her beauty had haunted him since their school days, but she was headstrong and impulsive and had reputedly aligned herself with the enemy. That was why Damir found Eliana’s offer hard to swallow—he was well-prepared for treachery—and why, when she fell into his hands, he felt no remorse about teaching her a lesson. But he would not use force; he would be gentle. He would craft a seduction so potent that, in the end, she would have to admit to her own desires. It was a strange brew that had brought them together, but nonetheless the sweetest he had ever tasted. ISBN# 0-505-52650-6 www.dorchesterpub.com

Reviews: "...STRANGE
BREWS is a fabulous romantic fantasy that grips the audience once
Eliana drinks
her own brew and never slows
down
until the final altercation between the lead rivals. The action-packed
story line makes believers out of the audience that magic is real
and that Eliana and Damir are powerful practitioners. Their competition
augments a fine thriller especially when both realize they love their
greatest rival. This is an appealing tale that readers of both sub-genres
will treasure." Ms. Piel has again provided strong characters and adventures
that are a joy to read. STRANGE BREWS is a romantic fantasy in a
'historical style' setting. The elements of magic and amnesia stir
the imagination in a story where love must battle evil and all is
not as it seems. Although the story comes to a satisfying ending,
I hope that the sequel hinted in this book is to be published as
this is a world that I would like to visit again. "Here is
a magical, adventurous tale that combines all the best that paranormal
romance has to
offer. Brimming with
passion, treachery, hope and love, this is delectable drama." Though Ms. Piel pays tribute to Tolkien's The Lord
of the Rings on her website, and she uses early myths for inspiration,
STRANGE BREWS is not at all derivative. The plot is fresh and original,
as are the characters, but the conflicts are the age-old ones of
good versus evil, love and hate, man and woman. Get in at the start
of the Dragonfly Saga and be carried away to a land created from
our deepest fantasies.
Strange Brews started as an idea many years ago, first with the intention of making it into a novella, because the idea was very simple. Two rival wizards meet in a forest glade, where the green-eyed Mage attempts to trick her nemesis into drinking a magical potion. He tricks her instead - and she drinks the brew herself. She wakes in a dark, handsome man's bed to find her memory gone. In vengeance, he tells her that he is her husband. I am very glad that I didn't do it as just a novella, because their story became something much more than it seemed on the surface. Now, the confused and frightened woman must learn of herself & her land (which is somewhat akin to a Welsh fantasy or an Elvish woodland), as well as the fragile balance attained in her people's history. She learns of a mischievous & possibly dangerous fellow Mage known as 'The Fiend,' who seems to have some secret hold over her handsome but mysterious husband. The Fiend is rumored to have a lover among the Woodland people's greatest enemy, the primitive & ruthless Norsk, who live in loosely connected tribes northeast of the Woodland. -- Now the momentarily victorious 'husband' finds that his long simmering attraction to his lovely rival has overshadowed something much deeper- something he desperately wants to last. Now, the return of her memory threatens more than a game between them - it threatens his own heart. But Eliana's memory may hold the only defense against the growing Norsk threat... Strange Brews is the first of a series, each linked by a white sword known as the Dragonfly Sword - the only light that stands against darkness...
